The Markgraf wreck lies almost completely upturned in 45m of water with her bows pointing roughly north west. She is open on the starboard side where the superstructure has prevented the ship rolling over completely and it is along this edge that much of the interest lies. The Markgraf is the most involved dive of the fleet, requiring a technicality that the others don't, but is still offers a good reward for competent sports divers.
The salvage on the wreck concentrated mainly on the main armour belt along the length of the Armoured Citadel, the engine room and the forward torpedo room. By the time the salvors had started work on the Markgraf, they were very practised and adept at their art so blasting is precise, accurate and concentrated with little structural collateral damage. In addition, the wrecks present orientation works with the designed strengths of the ship helping to prolong her integrity and structure.
